Our Scrapbook, Section 4

The pictures below, mostly newspaper cuttings, were collected over many years by various people. Some of the articles are well known while others we know very little about.
This part of the site, then, will hopefully be a two-way communication area. We hope that the articles and information contained within will give some insight into The Bexley Fencing Club but we also hope that it may jog the odd memory or two and enable us to find out more.
As with many historical artefacts, it is what is not told that may be important and that is what we are trying to find out.

We are always looking for information about the club, so if you know anything about The Bexley Fencing Club, anything about any of the pictures or articles, anything about any of the people in the pictures or articles (or are one of those people) then please get in touch with us. As we glean and discover, we will add additional pictures, notes and anything else we can find.

1990 to 1991

Bexley Fencing Club was formed in 1949 or 1950, the latter is more likely, thanks in part to the introduction of Fencing into the programme of the Crook Log Adult Education Centre in 1949. The Millennium saw the club with a small but enthusiastic group of fencers...
Can you tell us anything more?

Kentish Times September 1990 George Carter and Doug Skipper, two more names in the BFC’s history. Are George or Doug still involved in fencing somewhere, does anyone know of their whereabouts?
Kentish Times September 1990 Mention of the Danson Show. It would seem that The Bexley Fencing Club have been involved with this event for longer than most people remember. Do you remember any of the early shows?
Kentish Times September 1990 Open Day at Crook Log Leisure Centre, does David or Jacqui remember this day, does anyone know them?
Kentish Times October 1990 The Invicta Open Competition, with representation both individually and in the team events.
News Shopper February 1991 The BFC were hosting the Kent Epee Championship this year. No real surprise that Ralph Johnson was there, he is still fencing.
Kentish Times November 1991 We didn’t do so well at the Kent Foil Championship but it would seem that we were to host the Kent Epee Championship again.
