The pictures below, mostly newspaper cuttings, were collected over many years by various people.
Some of the articles are well known while others we know very little about.
This part of the site, then, will hopefully be a two-way communication area.
We hope that the articles and information contained within will give some insight
into The Bexley Fencing Club but we also hope that it may jog the odd memory or
two and enable us to find out more.
As with many historical artefacts, it is what is not told that may be important and
that is what we are trying to find out.
We are always looking for information about the club, so if you know anything
about The Bexley Fencing Club, anything about any of the pictures or articles,
anything about any of the people in the pictures or articles (or are one of those people)
then please get in touch with us. As we glean and discover, we will add additional pictures, notes and anything else we can find.
1985 to 1988
Bexley Fencing Club was formed in 1949 or 1950, the latter is more likely, thanks in part to the introduction of Fencing into the programme of the Crook Log Adult Education Centre in 1949. The Millennium saw the club with a small but enthusiastic group of fencers...
Can you tell us anything more?

Kentish Times September 1985 Another article about Len and the World Masters Games. Is there anyone else that has information about the World Masters? Have you competed in them?
|
|
Toronto Star August 1985 From the games themselves. Can anyone tell us anything about Art Plouffe or anyone else that Len may have fenced against? We obviously spotted the reporter's fencing knowledge regarding the "hit" on Art's arm…

Unknown 1985 An article written by Len. Could this be an in-house magazine that Len wrote for, any ideas?

|
Telecom Today December 1985 Article about the World Masters Games. Hopefully his 40 fights were spread out over a few days.

|
Kentish Times June 1986 The Kent Mixed Doubles at Tenterton. What are Mark and Liz up to now? Did they fence together on a regular basis?
|
|
Scan? 1986 The Scan? Just Scan? Possibly the in-house paper that Len wrote for? More mention of The Toronto Games. What is The Charles Davies Bowl Trophy? His goatee beard seems to be famous.

|
Unknown? 1988 Visit of Linda Martin and Pierre Harper to Crook Log. It was arranged by Len. There was a demonstration and an audience, does anyone remember the event, Anthony Gager and his brother Peter were there, were you there also? Let us know please. Pierre and Linda are still involved in fencing and are coaching in London at the moment as well as being involved with local schools and various youth programs.

Unknown? 1988 We are fairly sure that this is a photocopy of a photograph now long gone. We can recognise Len on the right as we look at the picture but who are the others and where are they? The young man on our left, we have been informed, is Mark Ellis. Mark, would you like to let us know if you still fence?
